From my family's table to yours!
Welcome to Olga's Table 🤍
I'm so happy you're here!
My love for cooking began long before I ever picked up a recipe book. It started around my grandmother's table, where food was never just something we ate - it was the heart of our family.
Some of my happiest childhood memories are of Christmas, New Year's celebrations, birthdays, and holidays spent surrounded by grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A real Christmas tree filled the house with its unmistakable aroma, presents waited patiently underneath its branches, children proudly recited poems, performed little dances and gymnastics routines, and laughter filled every room. But no celebration ever truly began until everyone gathered around the table.
That table was covered with dishes prepared with incredible love by my mom and my grandmother, who were both extraordinary cooks. From comforting family favorites like Olivier salad, beef Stroganoff, stuffed peppers, homemade soups, and fresh pastries to elegant desserts like Napoleon cake, Prague chocolate cake, éclairs, chocolate truffles, and countless holiday specialties, every recipe carried a story and brought our family together.
Those recipes became my greatest inheritance.
As I grew older, I didn't just continue cooking them - I began understanding them. Over the years I've carefully refined many of our treasured family recipes, making small changes that preserve everything we loved about them while better supporting today's lifestyles. Sometimes that means using a little less sugar, choosing olive oil instead of heavier fats, baking instead of frying, or adding more vegetables and wholesome ingredients. My goal has never been to reinvent traditional recipes, but to honor them while helping them fit naturally into modern, balanced living.
Another important part of my journey came through sports. As a competitive swimmer for many years, I learned firsthand how important proper nutrition is - not only for performance, but for feeling strong, healthy, and energized every day. I learned that our bodies need balance: quality protein to build and repair, healthy fats to support our brains and hearts, carbohydrates to provide lasting energy, and plenty of vitamins and minerals to help us thrive.
That experience shaped the way I cook today.
I don't believe in strict diets or labeling foods as "good" or "bad." I believe in moderation, real ingredients, and nourishing meals that satisfy both the body and the soul. Sometimes that means enjoying a beautiful homemade slice of cake, because food is also meant to celebrate life's special moments. Every stage of life is different, and our nutritional needs change with it. The key is learning to nourish ourselves with wisdom, not fear.
Here at Olga's Table, you'll find recipes inspired by generations of family tradition, European home cooking, and my own passion for creating meals that are both wholesome and deeply satisfying. Throughout the year, I also share traditional recipes prepared for Lent, inspired by my Christian faith and the customs I grew up with. Whether you observe Lent or are simply looking for delicious plant-based meals, I hope you'll find something that brings comfort and inspiration to your kitchen.
Above all, I believe food should bring joy.
It should nourish your body, warm your heart, and create memories with the people you love. Some of life's greatest conversations happen around the table, and my hope is that the recipes I share become part of those moments in your own home.
Thank you for pulling up a chair at Olga's Table.
From my family's table to yours - welcome.
With love,
Olga
